Hot Desking your 5550 Desk Phone
All of the Desk Phones at 5550 are set to be "Hot Desk" phones. This means that anyone can log into any Desk Phone on campus with their extension. All of your Soft Keys, Speed Dials will appear on the phone you are logged into. Anyone dialing your phone number will ring at whichever phone you are logged into. Your Voice Mail button will automatically know who you are and only require your Voice Mail PIN. IT IS REQUIRED that you log out of your Desk Phone each night. If you are not logged into ANY Desk Phone, calls made to your phone number will go directly to Voice Mail. All users at 5550 have Voice Mail messages delivered directly to your Outlook inbox. The rationale behind setting our Desk Phones to the Hot Desk method is because 5550 had a rash of long distance calls made from conference room phones that cost the Army a significant amount of money. Because the calls came from conference rooms we had no idea who made the calls and therefore no idea which department to charge for the calls. By requiring our users to log into the Hot Desk phone we are able to tell who made the call and subsequently who to charge for the call. If you leave your phone logged in, anyone can walk up to your phone while you are away and place a call. If there are long distance charges associated to that call we will bill your department. If it is not an Army related call that can be justified, your department head may have an issue with the charge that was made in your name. To Log INTO your Hot Desk Phone: 1. Press the Hot Desk Soft Key 2. Press Log In 3. Enter your 4 digit Phone Extension 4. Enter your 4 digit PIN (if you do not remember your PIN please call the Help Desk at 847.294.2267 or e-mail uscsupport@usc.salvationarmy.org) To Log OUT of your Hot Desk Phone: 1. Press Logout 2. Press Logout again FAQs: Q1. Do I have to log in? A1. No. Your phone will not ring if you are not logged in. Incoming calls will go directly to Voice Mail. All Voice Messages will appear in your Outlook inbox. Q2. Can I forward my Desk Phone to another phone? A2. We cannot forward Desk Phones to external numbers because it will occupy 2 phone lines to accomplish this task. If you want to answer your calls on another 5550 Desk Phone, simply log into another Desk Phone. Q3. I don't like checking my Voice Mail through my e-mail. How do I check my Voice Messages via the phone when I am not on campus? A3. Dial 847.294.2100 from any phone. When the attendant starts to speak press * then your 4 digit extension then #. The attendant will ask for your 4 digit PIN. Enter your 4 Digit PIN then #. Now follow the prompts.
