Outlook - AD - Distribution List Vs. Group

A Distribution List is an e-mail address that arrives in its members INBOX.
A Group is an e-mail address that arrives in a subfolder beneath the recipients INBOX.

If you put the e-mail address in your address book it will either show you a 2Person icon or nothing.

The 2 People Icon means it is a Distribution List

No Icon means that it is a Group

KAN_Users_Mail is a Distribution List:

Mac Users is a Group:

IF the Distribution list is names with UNDERSCORES like KAN_Users_Mail
It means that the membership is maintained at the LOCAL AD level.
This means that Division IT people have the ability to maintain this group.

IF the Divisional IT cannot maintain membership it is because that individual IT persons name is not an OWNER - and they SHOULD BE.  THQ IT can correct this so that Divisional IT can maintain membership.

IF the Distribution list does NOT have UNDERSCORES it has to be maintained by THQ IT.

GROUPS, like Mac Users:
Are maintained by the Groups Owners (which can be anyone in AD)
