This error pops up when opening a Word, Excel, PowerPoint file on a Mac.  The reason is due to Adobe Acrobat 20XX application.

Updated Solution- 3/23/2026

• Upgrade the mac user who has Adobe Acrobat 20XX to a subscription base Adobe Acrobat Pro license.
  • The reason is Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 and below has a hard time with understanding M series mac processors some of the time.
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro subscription is fully compatible with the macOS M series processors.

Solution: 

- The resolution is to follow the link below and go into the Tools of each application go to Tools - (Application) Add ins - Uncheck the addin in each program.  Close the Application then try and open a file depending on which document that you are trying to open
