** This happens in the M series chips only for macs

 

A user can't use certain features of the mac like Touch ID, iCloud, etc.

 

 

If you get the message Authentication is disabled

 

**This can be for setting up Touch ID or getting into the Keychain Access

How to Reset Secure Token macOS 

 

  • 1) You have to use your mac to transfer the reset_secure_token.tar file to the desktop of the local admin of the mac of the user how who has a broken secure token 

  • Double to extract the tar and drag the executable called reset_secure_token to the desktop of the local admin 

  • 2) Login as a local administrator on the mac 

  • Double to extract the tar and drag the executable called reset_secure_token to the desktop of the local admin 

  • 3) Open the terminal 

  • A) Type the following commands 

  • cd desktop 

  • sudo ./reset_secure_token 

  • B) The following prompts will appear in the Terminal (macOS Scure Token Reset Tool) 

  • Secure Token admin username: Enter a local admin account 

  • Preferably the local admin account that you are logged into 

  • Secure Token admin password: Enter a local admin password 

  • Target mobile account username: first name.last name of the user who is having the secure token problem 

  • Ex: michael.lamantia 

  • Target mobile account password: the password of the user’s keychain password to log into the mac

  • 4) The script will attempt to reset the Secure Token 

  • If successful, it will have a message that says Secure Token is enabled for [name of user] 

  • Look through the script to make sure the mobile account does not say incorrect password 

  • 5) Reboot the mac and have the user login
